April saw the global celebration of World Health Day, so to pay homage to the global campaign, April’s Career of the Month is a Paramedic.
What is a Paramedic?
Paramedics are medical professionals who act as emergency responders. They are trained in making quick diagnoses and administering immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses, such as cardiac arrests or strokes to name a few.
Paramedics also provide a service to the community, providing swift and controlled transportation to various places of healthcare, keeping their patients stable using sophisticated medical and detailed expertise.
What qualifications will you need to become a Paramedic?
A degree in paramedic science is a basic entry requirement, and there will be significant practical training during your time at university. You will also need a driving licence and criminal record checks.
A career as a Paramedic will be extremely physically demanding, so good fitness levels are a bonus. It is an all-around competitive career to get into and therefore volunteering may be really useful when applying for full-time roles.
Paramedic’s Job Description
As a Paramedic, you could work in an ambulance, at a client’s home, or in the community. Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding, and even outdoors sometimes. You may need to wear protective clothing and a uniform.
